Is this a fossil?

Hi everyone, 

I'm new to the group.

I'm wondering if the enclosed pictures are of a fossil.

Found it on my land a while ago but have now only realised that it could be a fossil.

Syringoporid tabulate coral, I think.

Pleasure. 

You seem to have Lower Carboniferous age rocks on your land which is unsurprising considering your location. 

Have a good look at the rocks you may find. There could be a wide variety of fossils nearby.................

I completely agree with above and would say this looks very similar to what is found in or around the Burren area of County Clare.

Not a syringoporid or a tabulate. It's a rugose coral with septa and horizontal tabulae - there are quite a few to chose from of various Palaeozoic periods. (Syringoporid tabulae are infundibuliform i.e funnel shaped.)

So possibly one of the Lithostrotionidae?

I've just realised it's from Ireland so definitely!  Most likely Diphyphyllum, or possibly a diphyphylloid Siphonodendron (i.e. no columella running up through the centre of the tabulae).
