Lucie
Hello there. I'm new to fossil collecting and just wanted some help with identifying if this is a real spinosaurus tooth or not. The seller advertised it as real and claims it comes from Morocco. I was recommended this seller, and they've got good reviews, but I think I'm just a bit paranoid after reading a lot of stories about fake fossils. Unfortunately I can't remove it from it's case so I can't show off all the angles. Any help is much appreciated. I'm also new to this site, so if I'm doing this wrong, I apologise! Troodon
It's a real Spinosaurus tooth. It's been broken in two places and reattached which you see often and tip is missing. Not sure if its natural wear or someone grinding down the tip surface to make it look more saleable. It does come from the Kem Kem of Morocco. Question why can you not take out the tooth? I would not buy a tooth if you cannot see both sides. Not one I would recommend since better ones are out in the market at a reasonable price
Lucie
The case is sealed shut. Either that or it's just really difficult to open. Thanks for the advice though!
Lucie
Update: After lots of pulling and prying, I managed to open up the case. It turns out it was just very tightly put on. So here's the other side of the tooth.
Troodon
Thank you. No change to my comments. It's real with some repair
Haravex
Agreed real tooth, looks to come further up north maybe around Erfoud for provenance rather than Begga. Just to note sellers never grind down the tips they will do anything to make it look like the tooth has no feeding wear as they see this as undesirable.
