Hello everyone,

The Land Before Time and jurassic park are some of my favourite movies  but i really not know nothig about fossils;)

Recently i found in the Alps Mountains here in italy what to my eyes is only a strange rock, i'm here to ask you if the thing you can see in the attached video can be some kind of fossil.

Many thanks to everyone

Interesting, it may indeed only be a strange rock, but the hole in the middle possibly could be the mold of a gastropod or maybe even a cephalopod fossil. Hard for me to say definitively.

Like ClearLake mentioned it is difficult to say definitively. Does the interior of the hole have any noticeable structure or impressions? I've seen plenty of cylindrical concretions with the center rotted out like this but I can't say anything definitive from what I see. That said, I'd lean towards just a rock.

I think we need to see the sides and reverse, please.

When I click on it I get video.

The center almost looks pentagonal. Crinoid stem mold in concretion ?

Here two more photos!

Many thanks to everyone!

The thing that can be not clear from the video (sorry for the grunts:)) is that the rock is almost a sphere with two clear cuts.  At the center of each of the "cut-planes" there are two holes (they maybe can be connected) and at the center of the two holes there is a "pin".

I dont see any geometrical impression. You guys seems to have exluded that it can be a bony part nevertheless i really like my strange rock.

The time has come that we must call for more context. Any idea what kind, or age of rock layers it may be from ?
