Because of a recent post by @GPayton I went through a pile of unidentified bones and found three vertebrae that I think might be alligator or crocodile. These are from the Brazos River in Texas. Please confirm that these are crocodilian if possible…. @Harry Pristis @fossilus @Shellseeker

here’s #1

I've collected some vertebrae that look similar. I've tentatively called them holmesina??, based on similarities to photos on the web. (Not from a peer reviewed paper) @PrehistoricFlorida may know?

These were each listed as giant armadillo and I think have a similar articulation surface as your verts..

consensus on this, brought to you by the anatomy grammar police:  A single vertebra has no e at the end; many vertebrae have an e at the end.

Nowhere in this thread do I see misuse of the singular or plural

Gary, just to be clear, these are 2 verts that I identify as alligator from the Brazos. The "ball" on the right of each is what (I believe) Shellseeker is pointing to in his post. I agree with Harry that yours don't really look like gator, to me at least.

Oops, my bad.  I went through it too quickly and did not realize there was more than 1 vert.  Sorry.  (On the other hand, maybe others have taken note).

But I did give you a thumbs up for what you said because it is true even if it doesn’t apply here.  And I had the same initial reaction as you.  Glad it was you, not me, who stuck his foot in his mouth. :heartylaugh:
