Hey from Florida

Hello everyone!

My name is RJ, I am brand new to learning about fossils. I live in Central Florida. I'm a scuba diver and I have found a few nice shark teeth on a few of my dives.

I have a lot to learn about fossils and searching for them but I am excited to set out on the journey.

Thanks!

Well howdy and welcome. Florida seems to have a more than average amount of Gomphothere (extinct elephant) teeth. Be on the lookout....

Especially at the Montbrook site. We find them (and the jaws they are in) regularly while volunteer digging with the FLMNH.

This last year has been limited due to the pandemic but hoping for a more open volunteer season come autumn (sometime in November likely). Get signed up here and you'll get an email notification when the season starts.

Cheers.

Welcome.

I too, have been collecting for a few months, although the fossil theme has always been curious and interesting for me.

I am not sure what the "average" amount is , but it occasionally shows up unexpectedly.
