Found in Galway, Ireland

Hi,

I found this fossil on my land in Co. Galway, Ireland today.

Can you please confirm what sort of fossil it is.

Roughly just over 6 inches by 6 inches.

Welcome to the forum. :) 

 

I would guess a form of "pipe" coral (possibly Syringopora?). At the very least, definitely coral. I find similar in Devonian deposits over here (apologies for not having comparative photos handy at the moment!). @TqB

A coral from the family Lithostrotionidae. 

Siphonodendron? 

Early Carboniferous in age. 

I usually get these wrong, so let's ask Tarquin. @TqB

Carboniferous colonial coral. Depending on where in Co. Galway you are, most likely around 330 -345  million years old.
