JSERTL
I've had this for quite some time & I've always just told people it was a fish because you can see what looks like a dorsal fin on top and a tail fin or what's left of it and even texture of the scales. Unless mother nature is getting really good at making pseudo fossils lol I didn't know who to ask since the person I used to turn to when I found something hasn't responded to me in quite some time. (which has actually got me worried) Some of you might have heard of him, a paleontologist named Guy Darrough who knew my mom & dad before I was ever born. So I came across this site & I figured I'd ask some of you about some of my latest finds if that's all right with everybody. I know I'm not educated in this field but I have a passion for hunting this stuff & preserving it before being lost again forever.
Fossildude19
It's definitely not a fish. What is the size of this? BobWill
You came to the right place. The people here are the best on the internet for a good ID. That thing sure wants to be something but if you google examples I don't think you'll see any fish like that. I don't recognize it but one thing I've learned here is that knowing the age will eliminate many possibilities. The request for a location can tell us that. The direction from the nearest town or landmark will do.
JSERTL
Sorry, also found in missouri & it's 4.5 inches long & 1.5 inches at the widest spot Approximately 3hrs south of St Louis smack dab in the middle of the Mark Twain national Forest on the Beautiful Black River to be exact
hadrosauridae
Sorry, not a fossil of any type, just a rock. Also, just as an FYI, if it had been any kind of a vertebrate fossil, it would have been illegal to remove from gov't land. "There is no shortage of fossils. JSERTL
FYI not federal land this is all considered Mark Twain national Forest because the lines are so sporadic but I was on private property. And even if I wasn't I'd still pick it up before it was lost again forever. Unless it was something major then I would call it my buddy that digs up dinosaurs and let him take it from there
