Croc tooth or false alarm?

Again being a newbie to this, I quickly realize that it's not easy to know what you found.  This seems like it's a fossil and not geologic - but a tooth?  Part of a bone?

It measures just under 1" in length.  All black.  Found on the Potomac River near Montross, Virginia.

There are lots of experts on here and hopefully one will give you some better advice, but to me, it looks more like a bit of worn bone rather than tooth. Typically teeth show evidence of enamel.  And as far as I know, croc teeth are fully round.
