Erin36
I just purchased these sold as Megaladon teeth. I see some repairs I think. The big one I think is in almost perfect condition. The others seem small so not sure if they are Megaladon or another shark fossil? Any help is appreciated.
Top Trilo
All real and all are megalodon except for the last tooth. Not sure what the last tooth is but someone who does will surely chime in soon. “If fossils are not "boggling" your mind then you are simply not doing it right” -Ken (digit) "No fossil is garbage, it´s just not completely preserved” -Franz (FranzBernhard) "With hammer in hand, the open horizon of time, and dear friends by my side, what can we not accomplish together?" -Kane (Kane) "We are in a way conquering time, reuniting members of a long lost family" -Quincy (Opabinia Blues) "I loved reading the trip reports, I loved the sharing, I loved the educational aspect, I loved the humor. It felt like home. It still does" -Mike (Pagurus) “The best deal I ever got was getting accepted as a member on The Fossil Forum. Not only got an invaluable pool of knowledge, but gained a loving family as well.” -Doren (caldigger) "it really is nice, to visit the oasis that is TFF" -Tim (fossildude19) "Life's Good! -Adam (Tidgy's Dad)

daves64
Teeth are real, but I'm not so sure about the roots on #'s 2 & 3. It may just be my imagination, but they look manufactured, especially the backside of the 3rd one. And the root on the 4th tooth looks like it has quite a bit of the sand or whatever making up a portion of the root as well. I'm no expert, just calling as I see it. I could very well be wrong. 1 Accomplishing the impossible means only that the boss will add it to your regular duties.
Erin36
I'm no expert either so I appreciate any insight. I was thinking that the two in my hand were repaired on the sides of the teeth facing each other. I do see what your talking about with the root as well but not sure if that's normal or not. I will add another picture showing the roots more clearly hopefully. Thank you!
daves64
Yeah, I'm even more sure the roots are man made now. Top tooth in the last pic has what looks like file marks in various areas on the root & the overall root looks ground down & smoothed. The 2 megs show what look like grooves in the possible sand & glue mixture used to create the roots that continue into the blueish "bourlette" that look like they've been painted on. Real teeth, not so real roots. But as I said, not an expert. I'll let them either confirm or refute my observations. FB003
I see where Daves coming from. I think the better question is, are you happy with them? In the end thats what matters the most! 1 1 *Frank*
Phos_01
Real Meg tooth to me, appart from last photo, some other shark. There are much experts in Sharks here on the TFF surely someone will say what species. First one with some repair like on the second photo you see it small area were the side serrations also don't follow up. Ive marked it. Looks like an indonesian Meg. The others are a little weared down, they are found in water, you can see this at the serrations they have become flat. Also the rooth is usually a little more rounded, in this case its' a mix. Nevertheless a fun ad for a collection! Enjoy Edited September 4, 2021 by Phos_01
