Stingray
I’m working on the pictures 9 bugs so far but trying to split this rock . Plus I had a couple new trips every day while the weather’s nice. Found some nice stuff in Kingston NY + a pygidium. Will post soon on my adventure. Shellseeker
Nice finds !!! I lived in the Hudson Valley for 20 years, working for some computer company. That was 20 years before I got the fossil bug. Had to look up Little Falls. Unfortunately , I know little about Trilobites. tombk
Very nice! Do you split the slab with chisels, or do you just knock on the side with a rock hammer until it splits? I know I’d be tempted to keep trying for thinner and thinner sheets to get at more fossils, but then end up shattering any specimens into pieces. Wrangellian
These all came out of one chunk, or more than one? I guess you wouldn't bring any chunks home on spec unless you knew the fossil concentration was high enough to make it worthwhile.
Stingray
@tombk yes I split them but I use a painters tool that has been sharpened on a grinder. @Wrangellian not all of them did about 4 did the rest were just sitting in the water clear as day. I still have a few showing in that large rock but slowly splitting them out.

Unfortunately, this material is highly cross-bedded, and does not generally split nicely along regular bedding planes. Ha tell me about it , your the king of splitting rock. This stuff is crazy, just when you think you have it going smooth a circle starts then ends into a new angle my eyes are bugging out. Franz Bernhard Usually lightly tapping with a hammer away from yourself is not an issue. But, as with all sharp tools, caution is required. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." I did not know how hard (or "soft") you have to hit it. Franz Bernhard
Stingray
Yes with a small hammer use safety glasses. Also I think the tool is actually a glazers tool they use un windows. It’s a slow process so don’t rush you will probably break a few but the ones you get out will be much better.

I've visited here a couple times, just make sure you don't go past (or near) the areas with posted signs. If you stick in the general area of the garage/justice office you should be fine. There's a certain layer in the cliff side where I was finding a lot of T. beckii body parts. I may have a photo of it... The space inside the red box is where I was finding a lot of bodies, I found a body and head very close to eachother there too (the person in the photo is me) Here's a link to my reel of the find I posted on Instagram, https://www.instagram.com/reel/CPlLatiBOp4/?utm_medium=copy_link However, I've also had luck on the large blocks jutting out of the ground. Here's a group of 3 bodies that I found on the "shore" of the little river.
