Rockwood
The preservation makes a definite ID a bit tough, but I think it's a crinoid stem section.
Fossildude19
I'd like to see an image of the left side (current photo orientation.) . ab123622
Yes I think you are right, it's stem fragment. I was imagining I could see mouthparts . Thank you.
abyssunder
It looks like a chert/flint nodule, to me. I'm not sure about the crinoid content without the specimen in hand, so I'm leaning toward banded chert/flint. I could be wrong. 1 2 " We are not separate and independent entities, but like links in a chain, and we could not by any means be what we are without those who went before us and showed us the way. TqB
I agree with abyssunder. Based on the second photo, it's a piece of flint. Banded flint for the first view is likely but a clearer photo would help. 1 1 Tarquin
Rockwood
You don't suppose that look could be explained by calling it a siphuncle ?
thelivingdead531
I agree with it being flint (chert), but I think there is something else there. I could be completely wrong though.
ab123622
Thanks, I've never heard of banded flint before but looking at other examples it matches pretty well.
