Renea West
I recently found this rock and was intrigued by the square hole. Any ideas as to what may have caused this?
kgbudge
I don't see how that could be anything but artificial. The "why" eludes me, though. My Blog
daves64
Could have been a cubic pyrite piece that has fallen out. 5 Accomplishing the impossible means only that the boss will add it to your regular duties.

I wondered if it might be a crystal cast, but this looks like a chunk of quartzite. If it's something like that, it's very interesting in its own rights. It would fit nicely into Fred Flintstones tool box. It is almost certainly the remnant/mold of a pyrite crystal though.
turtlesteve
Yes it would have been a pyrite cube, likely altered to goethite and then fallen or weathered out.
