Possible bean

Hi - I found this pebble - about lima bean size. Agatized? See photos. Could this be a bean? Location in Southeast Arizona. Thanks!

I would say a bean-shaped piece of quartzite or similar that has been subject to erosive forces; I do not think it is a fossil.

Certainly possible!

But highly improbable. The stratigraphy of Arizona is much older than bean plants, and this specimen does not resemble any of the seed pods common to the fossil plant species of Arizona. Odds of this being anything other than a water-worn pebble of geological origin are slim-to-none.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

Thank you- makes sense!

You're welcome. We try to help people understand what they have found on The Fossil Forum (TFF for short), but many folks take it the wrong way when we burst their bubble. We aren't being mean. Our main purpose is to educate and make people better at identifying what they have found, be it fossil or otherwise. I admit that it certainly looks like a bean.
