Ludwigia
Can you first please tell us exactly where and in which stratigraphic level or formation it was found. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/
Fossildude19
The photo is a bit blurry, but this looks like a Macroneuropteris leaf. Cropped and contrasted: That would put your rocks in the Carboniferous period, : way before dinosaurs. digit
Yup. That looks like your first real fossil! Agreed, the texture near the midline does appear to be a pinnule from a tree fern which would (as mentioned) indicate something back from the Carboniferous which is likely more in line with your area. The matrix it is in appears similar to a Mazon Creek sideride concretion. https://www.google.com/search?q=macroneuropteris&tbm=isch Cheers. -Ken
Mark Kmiecik
I agree. It's a Macroneuropteris pinnule. Nice find! Mark. Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!
Missourian
Nice find! It would be worth looking over the creek gravel for similar concretions. With luck, the source area could be somewhere upstream. Context is critical.
