Lmh
Found this in a river bed in Branson Missouri. It weighs 1lb 2.3 oz and is about 4”x4”. It caught my eye because it looked like quartz at first. Looks a little different than most pictures of fossilized turtle shells I found on the web. Any thoughts appreciated.
Meganeura
It looks to me to just be a crystal cluster! Quartz, I think. Fossils? I dig it.
daves64
Looks more like calcite to me. @ynot? Edited July 14, 2022 by daves64 1 2 Accomplishing the impossible means only that the boss will add it to your regular duties.
Lmh
The first picture shows the outside which looks to be a turtle shell to me. Thank you for the reply and your thoughts!

I just see a white crystal which usually is quartz to me, lol. Fossils? I dig it.

Thank you for the reply and your thoughts! Turtle shell has a porous texture on the sides (And sometimes bottom, depending where/how thick the fossil), the same as any fossil bone does. This piece doesn't have that texture, and is just a very neat calcite crystal. Fossils? I dig it.
Fin Lover
I can see how this would look like a turtle shell, but I see inconsistent cracks, not consistent scutes, and I also don't see the right texture on the sides. Fin Lover My favorite things about fossil hunting: getting out of my own head, getting into nature and, if I’m lucky, finding some cool souvenirs.
