Bunch of ID’s needed today!

1) More of a confirmation than anything else - cusp of a Gomph/Mastodon milk tooth?

2) It’s a tooth, I just… don’t know what from.

3) Not a clue. I don’t think it’s pet wood, but I might be wrong?

4) I think this is a whale ear bone.

5) These are all jaw pieces, and I think most are Dolphin, but I wanted confirmation.

1) Milk tooth cusp:

concur on dolphin jaw, particularly the 4 pieces on the right.

The ones I'm most curious about are the one on the left and then the second from the left, on the top. One on the left is obvious why it's strange - the other one has much smaller tooth holes so I'm not sure if it's also dolphin.

the second from the left at top falls within the variation of what I've collected and confirmed with folks more expert than me as dolphin jaw. Have to leave it to others to say anything more specific though.

Makes sense! I figured as much, but a confirmation is nice! I've been finding lots of dolphin jaw after finding none on any previous trips. This location seems to be rich in em.

1) More of a confirmation than anything else - cusp of a Gomph/Mastodon milk tooth? Agree

2) It’s a tooth, I just… don’t know what from. Agree, neither do I

3) Not a clue. I don’t think it’s pet wood, but I might be wrong? Agree, feeling 40% confident

4) I think this is a whale ear bone. Whale tympanic bulla,  see below

5) These are all jaw pieces, and I think most are Dolphin, but I wanted confirmation. Almost certain for 4 on the right and high probability for the one on the left.

On the Bulla, do this and lets us know what you think. It has all that Bobby, or Harry or I would say about overly worn whale bulla forund in the Peace River.

...I always forget I can search like that. So, it's cetacean, most likely not Dolphin due to size - which would lead me to sperm whale, probably Kogiopsis since they're most common in Florida. Could be totally wrong still, but for now it'll do.

Also glad to know you also don't know what the tooth is. @Harry Pristis Do you have any ideas? If not, I suppose I'll have to take some pics for Richard Hulbert.

These pictures are the ones I just sent, hopefully they’re enough for him to figure it out!

Also looking at pictures... I'm going to take a wild guess here and say Llama incisor without the root? Shape seems right.

You think so? I’m not discounting that honestly. My first thought was actually plastic, but that was before I picked it up. I’ve never seen any stone striated like wood though.

It seems to be either rich in iron (or some other metal), or be crystalline - hence the repeating nature. I've found lots of rocks like this, but good heavens if I know the name of it!

Silicified wood is known from Peace River, but this doesn't show the grains typical of it.

A keen note that makes me think it's geologic is the cross section, wherein a change in direction of pattern is noted - this is unexpected in wood.

Right - that was exactly why I wasn't sure if it was wood, the layering confused me. Also the pictures aren't particularly clear, but it's actually an off-white color, not as dark as the pictures show.

Hulbert got back to me - it is in fact a Llama incisor, which is really neat. First llama tooth I've found!
