connorology
Anyone want to weigh in on if this is a fossil or not? The base rock (not the crystals) looks like petrified wood to me, but I don't have much experience IDing petrified wood. It is a strange formation. Not sure on the locality - it is part of my late grandfather's rock collection. He was from Minnesota. No labels and the cut looks professional so I imagine it was purchased or traded for and not found by him. Harry Pristis
It looks like some specimens from the Withlacoochee River, the one on the North Florida/Georgia border. Does not appear to be from the "Silex Beds" of Tampa Bay. This is the state gemstone of Florida. 4 2 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
