Possible dinosaur egg?

Sergiorex

Recommended Posts

Hi, I saw this listing for a supposed real dinosaur egg, and wasn’t sure if it’s real or what species it may be from. It looks real to me but I’m not sure it’s a dinosaur egg. Unfortunately the seller doesn’t have a locality as they said it was passed down to them. Anyways i would appreciate any help with detecting whether it’s real or identifying what it’s from if it is real. Thanks in advance

Uggh.

This is a very poorly put together franken-egg.

I wouldn't touch it with a very long pole.

Agreed.
That is one hot mess! Don’t go anywhere near that thing!

To be a little more informative…

I’m not sure all the “shell” actually is shell. If it is, it is from multiple different types of eggs (different texture, color, preservation). They are not fitted together well at all. Anything with texture isn’t running in the same direction. The “matrix” looks to be a mix of sand and glue.

Pretty much anything that could be wrong with this “egg” is wrong. You might consider it an art project if you hold your head just right, but that is even a stretch. :(

You can try, but don't hold your breath waiting for a thank you from them.

That's one the worse I've seen -- ever! I can't find any edges that match. Looks like every piece of shell is from a different egg.

Thats probably the worst faked fossil egg I've seen.

Agreed! No effort expended in this hoax--sheesh!

I always check any posts with "dinosaur eggs" and usually expect to see someone with a backyard concretion wanting to know if it is from a T-rex and how many millions of dollars they can hock it for online. This one is so bad that it got a laugh out of me this morning. As advised, avoid like patties in a cow pasture.

Cheers.

Well if the seller could not see this obvious fabrication I would suggest avoiding him in the future.
