Fossil identification required - South Africa

Please could someone help with identifying this item, it was found on a beach in South Africa about 15+ years ago

 

Dimensions: 6cm x 4cm x 4cm

 

Any help would be appreciated.

Well, that is a mammal tooth but I am a little bit surprised to see a South African fossil as the law about fossil is very severe there. 

Only public servant with a special authorization can collect fossil in South Africa if I remember well.

It looks horse-like but not horse.  Hopefully somebody more knowledgeable will comment soon

it looks like an upper rhino tooth. you can identif the three lophs and a big mediofossette

I think it may be one end of an elephant tooth where the enamel plates tend to get disorganized.
