msantix
Hi, Wanted to get some opinions on this tooth. The tooth is from a Pliosaur with a root attached, what I want to know is if the root belongs to the crown. There is some matrix around part of the crown and extends just past the root which is my main concern. My initial thoughts are that the tooth and the root belong together so I just want to see if everything looks alright! thank you
Praefectus
That's a pretty one. It looks original to me. I think the crack and matrix are natural, possibly repaired with glue. 1
pachy-pleuro-whatnot-odon
I agree with Trevor. Seeing as how the crown is attached to the root where this transition is visible, and how the striations on the crown match up both above and below the break, I'd say this is an authentic tooth. Repair is possible, but doesn't seem overly likely. Nice one! 1 1 'There's nothing like millions of years of really frustrating trial and error to give a species moral fibre and, in some cases, backbone' -- Terry Pratchett
