Found this 'tooth' in a sand dune near Morro Bay, CA

I found this in a sand dune near Morro Bay, California.  I've had it for decades, and am curious if anyone can shed some light on it's identification.  
To me, it looks like a tooth, but I've never seen any fossil teeth in photos that look like this.  Thank you in advance!

Sorry, not a tooth, but maybe someone else can identify the mineral/rock.

Even when fossilized, teeth will have the "glossy" look of enamel. Mother nature loves to trick us with rocks that look like teeth, but always look for the actual morphology of a tooth, the enamel on the blade and bone structure of the root.
