I.C. Fossils
I found both of these during the last year between Fort Pierce and Jensen Beach. I was hoping someone could help narrow down what I’ve got here. I think the small one might be a phalanx or caudal vertebrae from a dog. I think the broken one may be about 3/4 of a metapoidal from a tapir. It would be nice to get some feedback from someone about what you think. dbrake40
What is the scale on these bad boys? Can you post additional photos with a scale?
ClearLake
The small black one is a tie bone from ??? Without scale and better pictures, probably hard to say much more than that. I see the drawn scale bar but have no idea if those are inches, feet, centimeters, millimeters or what. The other, lighter colored, one is more problematic to ID because it is broken. I could see it being a caudal (tail) vertebra but there are other options as well. Again, it might be hard to get very specific given its incomplete nature and for us probably impossible without knowing the scale. Even if one feels great that it’s a caudal vert, they are not the most diagnostic of bones to narrow down.
Shellseeker
I think the smaller one may be Alligator. The White Queen ".... in her youth she could believe "six impossible things before breakfast"
I.C. Fossils
Thank you dbrake40, ClearLake, and shellseeker so much for the responses! I got a pretty good book and havent found anything too interesting to post, also I appologize for not following up and also failing to mention that the bar was centimeters. I must not have had email notifications turned on and i havent logged in for a while. Sorry to bring up old bones- if that is frowned upon. I didnt even think alligator beacause of the size, i somehow forget to factor in that fossils of any animal can be many different sizes. Here are a few more photos as requested. Look forward to any feedback, thanks agin
