I took a chance on this concretion. I think it paid off.

I visited a new locality recently and spotted this concretion. I dont really split concretions these days unless there is a really good reason to do it. I prefer prospecting and looking for clues that something is inside. And - it’s hard work splitting these concretions :default_faint:

Glad I rolled the dice on this one though. You just don’t get many Tumidocarcinus specimens with leg tips. Not a huge crab, but I like the small ones too.

Should glue back together and prep nicely. Good separation on that carapace except for the usual trouble spot. That area near the front of the carapace is often sticky and fragile. A nightmare to prep sometimes.

Just hope that left claw isn’t tucked under.

Daaaaaaangola!!!  Looks like a most wonderful 'smaller' Tumido.  An 8 legger all the way to the tippy tippy's!  I very happy for you but jealous at the same time.  Definitely looking forward to seeing this one prepped out.  Best of luck to ya

Thanks Ron!

Pretty excited about it. I still get excited finding a really good crab. Hard to find a Tumido with leg tips.

Many of the tumidos don’t have their legs fully preserved in the concretions in the first place. You rarely see the concretions still in the sediment and I’ve seen the legs sticking out the concretion into the soft silt.

if you want leg tips you have to get good a guessing which rock might have a crab inside, as you don’t want anything exposed. The crab hunting dilemma!

Thanks,

Still get buzzed about finding a complete one of these. I reckon 5% of the crabs you find are complete like this.  :yay-smiley-1:

Tell me about it.  I only have one and I still had to rebuild one of the tippy tips.  Anyways, have fun prepping that beauty out and I hope you show progress pictures too.

Thanks for suggesting it’s a worthy entry  I found this last month and just got around to posting it. I might do once it’s prepped though?
