Appears to be several clustered together. I was thinking that it could be the base of the plant, where several stems branched off a shared rhizome (as seen in figure a). Thoughts?

  • Fossildude19 changed the title to Weird Calamites Fossil

The band towards the top (right) side going across the majority of this fossil has me thinking it's a single calamites section, but compressed and warped. It's a less detail pronounced specimen, but to the point above I think it is a fossil vs just a rock/geologic.

The preservation isn't good enough to be certain from this photo, but I think this is likely multiple Cordiates leaves.

Calamites is one of the most common fossils here. I've found plenty of it and Artisia just behind my house.

Here are a couple more angles, as well as a close-up of what appear to be Calamites' characteristic nodes:

Poorly preserved plant matter is the best I can give it. These could be nodes, but evidence of vascular wedges in the pith cast is weak, and it doesn't strike me as looking like an external mold.
