Interesting piece found in the junction bed Jurassic layers in Somerset. Bone like texture. Possibly ichthyosaur?? Any help much appreciated. Found amongst Jurassic ammonites layers.

While I can see something of a honey-comb structure that I think is what would've suggested to you this being bone, I'm not quite sure what to make of it. If vascularisation, then it would theoretically be dense enough to be marine reptile bone, although that more often than not gets permineralised, with no visible traces of individual vascularisation remaining. I also don't really recognise where this could fit in within ichthyosaur anatomy, except possibly the jaw, which is straight and does have this kind of central groove running through it. But I'd hesitate to jump to conclusions.

Maybe @Welsh Wizard or @DE&i have ideas on this?

It's the central groove that I thought was similar to jaw bone too. Will probs remain a bit of a mystery piece. Thanks for looking both of you.
