CaptainRedBeard
Various chunks of the same material found towards Coventry Any help on identifying whether it's bone or wood would be hugely appreciated
FranzBernhard
I think, its neither proper wood* nor bone. But I have no good idea. *The black stuff is coal? And the radial stuff is calcium carbonate? Someone familiar with your area could have a proper idea! @TqB - thank you! Franz Bernhard 1
Rockwood
Maybe wood that was encrusted by a bryozoan ? It would be unusual, but it seems possible.

But I am sceptic, this radial stuff looks quite inorganic at the moment. More details needed! Franz Bernhard
TqB
I'm not sure but my first thought is that it's a piece of wood surrounded by fibrous calcite, probably in a limestone from the the Lias (Lower Jurassic). (One of several periods present in Warwickshire). The colloquial name for that sort of calcite is "beef" - search "beef calcite".
