Yesterday I received a 30 pound box of various shell, marine fossils, and some other miscellaneous fossils and a few extant bits as well.  I will post in the ID section some as not everything has a label.  It is a large overwhelming amount to sort through so this will be a bit at a time kind of thread.

Please let me know if anything of the id tags are using outdated names or incorrect, etc.

First an overall picture the seller had of the lot.

Nice haul.:envy:

Yes, Spiriferina walcotti, one of the last of the spiriferinids. Lovely. :brachiopod::b_love1:

And it's Glycymeris americana, as per the label ;  a species name is never capitalized even if it is the name of a country or person.

I look forward to seeing more of this exciting collection.

Thanks.  I think my phone's autocorrect snuck the capitalization in on me...

Just wait Adam there's more Brachiopods to be revealed.  So I believe have no labels so we'll have a mystery to solve.

Ok, time to see some more of the Brachiopod bounty!

Need a little glue and a steady hand for the one.

And thanks to Adam they are actually Stropheodonta demissa, that label would be for a horn coral.

I might try to gently pick a bit more of the matrix material off this one...and also turns out the old labels have a typo.

Stereolasma rectum is a solitary rugose horn coral.

I think that's Stropheodonta demissa.

And it's Paraspirifer bownockeri.

Up first these were wrapped in a old sheet of paper with only the date '11/87' and 'Swatara' written on the outside of it.  More investigation to be done but it definitely looks like to similar rock to that at Swatara state park.IMG_20230525_120848816.thumb.jpg.f1750c8f388878688284ad863c7c01e4.jpg

This one I tried looking up words from the label...not all of them came back with things in Google that made sense... obviously there is some trilobite bits...kopf translates to head...hypostum seems to be related to the trilobite mouth...Ostsee seems to be the German coast along the Baltic sea...but Bredtene makes google point to a coastal town in Belgium called Bredtene..so if anyone can shed some light I would appreciate it.

At least one type of Brachiopod and a clam like critter from Germany

The hinge of the clam like critter if that helps

IMG_20230525_120215156.thumb.jpg.adc9cb21388a211398d9a7880dcab1c0.jpg

I think 3 different types of Brachiopods frome Germany

IMG_20230525_121137587.thumb.jpg.583e8bb18ecb07979470b964776f773a.jpg

3 more Brachiopods and a belemnite? from Germany as well.

Thank you Sir Adam Baron of the Brachiopods!  I will keep an eye out for some horn coral without a label.  Or maybe I'll find a horn coral with a Stropheodonta demissa label.

I think it could be the orthocerid Michelinoceras, Cryptolithus and Sowerbyella from the Swatara.

Might be Sowebyella rugosa.

I will have to get out my macro lenses and see if I can get a better picture of the possible Cryptolithus...I initially thought it was a cluster of tiny Brachiopods...but you might be right.
