MOROPUS
I found this echinoid in a lost box, in my auntie old house. It was pakaged with other stuff, like a small shell collection, some nice mineral specimens, a complete old dog?/fox? skull, and another fossil specimen. Like the other one, this echie (I believe)comes from the middle Pliocene of Almeria (the matrix is the same). I think it`s a Schizaster, but wich one?. Another question. The matrix is becoming dust-like stuff. What can I do?

Coco
Hi Alex, I prefer chocolate cake ! I have 2 pictures of a Schizaster saheliensis from Almeria Pliocene. I have found them on novembre 2008 on E-bay. I can't be sure of their species... But Harry Pristis put a pic of a Schizaster canaliferus (canalifera ?) from the same area : http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php/topic/272-echinoid-from-spain/ Hope this could help you... pitufopaco
Hi Moropus Schizaster saheliensis is a biomarker of the Messinian, Upper Miocene locks therefore can not be Pliocene, but seeing the matrix (Pliocene no doubt) I choose by another species. Schizaster saheliensis es un biomarcador del messiniense, esclusivo del mioceno superior, por lo tanto no puede ser del plioceno, pero viendo la matriz (pliocena sin duda)me dacantaría por otra especie.
