Tjapaltjarri
I was clearing out behind the garage and found a bag of rocks collected by my kids back in 1992 at the Eastern end of Broadford Bay beach back in 1992. One of these caught my attention. With a bit of imagination I believe I can see the crack of a metaphyseal plate, tendon grooves, a cancellous bone/cortical bone junction and "crows feet" areas of attachment of ligamenmts, a spur that looks like an ulnar styloid and also broken off epicondyles. I know parts of an immature T. rex were found at this locality in the 1980's but does anyone have any idea what this bone might be - if it is a fossil bone. Many thanks, Howard
TqB
Hi Howard, I'm afraid it's not a bone but a piece of ammonite - convolutions in the chamber walls are making the processes (e.g. pic 4) and a suture line is clear in the last pic. Bits like this can be very deceptive! Edited June 3, 2011 by TqB Tarquin

Tjapaltjarri
Glad you're pleased . Hedgehogs and scrubbing brushes spring to mind - should have seen the similarity of my "crows feet" to sutures
