Tarheel59
I went out on a scouting trip again today. Water is high in all the creeks and rivers. I went to several spots, different creeks and even stopped by a couple spots on the Tar. I have never checked out these spots before so was not sure what to expect or where to go once I parked near the water. Either the creeks I visited are not fossilferous or the creeks were to high to see the gravel spots and fossils. One spot I visited in Tarboro was not showing any bone material or teeth on casual search. I did not screen anyplace that I went just surface searched walking in the creeks where possible. I visited 5 spots total and finally last spot yielded something. I found a few bones possible Ear bone loaded into ID forum and several other bones and one tooth that at least told me I had found a creek running through an exposure somewhere. Each creek I visited had their own obstacles unlike GMR where you can walk right to entrance spots easy enough. The ones I visited had to hack my way through bramble briars and vines and undergrowth. It was more work getting to these spots than I thought it would take. Below is a few pics of what I found at least did not get skunked. Not a great trip but at least brought home something and found a likely spot to hunt closer to home. Just have to find where that tooth came from and sift that creek in near future... Thanks for looking Tarheel/Jeff Pics are fron and backs and then one shot of tooth.
RickNC
I've been doing this for the last two years Jeff. I have a few new places to hit hard this year.
Tarheel59
Yeah I would like a place that is seldom searched or at least not as hard as GMR is hunted... They are out there just have to find them and obtain permission if on private land... I have only been hunting inland sources for a year now, and now know what to look for in a creek or river somewhat. Not up to yalls speed but getting there. xonenine
hats off to you Jeff, I have a hard time leaving known or productive sites to explore more, hearing stuff like this is the extra push I need to break my routine a little. Carmine Thanks Carmine It is hard to leave a site that you know produces fossils to someplace we know nothing about. I would love to be able to find that place that is as rich as GMR was or Big Brook were in their earlier days... Thanks for the comment, Jeff
Tarheel59
Good job Jeff. Just look for the gravel! Thanks Mike, looking for that (gravel and bone material as it is large and easily noticed... If I find either then I know it is a possible spot.. Now I have to get down there with a screen and dig a little and sift alot... Thanks for comment, Jeff

Other than the 2 Fl trips for real life stuff ( not for fun) and just a couple GMR hunts... Not really had the time... Hope to get back out somewhere soon though...
