Hello Chris,

Yes the material is from the Cretaceous period about 110 MYA. Belemnites are occaisionally found at the White Cliffs opal fields and more commonly at Coober Pedy, but they have never been found here at Lightning Ridge.

Thanks Matthew! I should go look at some articles/maps on Australian geology as I'm completely ignorant about their distribution/age. Am aware of some of the plant material but generally in the dark. Will do. Always something more to be learned!

Hi @silcrete

I've found this little piece in amongst a bag of tailings that my kids got as a lucky dip whilst @ lightning ridge

it's tiny like 7mm long by 2mm tiny but it looks similar to this bone you posted a photo of ..

It's is grey/blue potch with a black potch centre that runs almost half way down. Hopefully these photos are clear enough..
