ScienceDaily (Oct. 15, 2008) — New research has provided the first detailed look at the internal head skeleton of Tiktaalik roseae, the 375-million-year-old fossil animal that represents an important intermediate step in the evolutionary transition from fish to animals that walked on land.

The sequence of evolution seems plausible enough, and the anatomical evidence is sound. What surprises me is the comment that, prior to this study, it was assumed that the changes occurred more rapidly; I assumed that it took a while, and the pioneers were from shallow (and possibly ephemeral) water environments.
