32fordboy
Okay, traded a couple of premium-grade teeth to a friend and ended up getting my dream fossil out of it: a Titanothere skull from Nebraska. So, now what? If anybody on here is well-versed in Titanotheres, can you help figure a genus? It would have been a little one, as the skull is about 2' long and the animal was very old when it died, indicated by the extremely worn teeth show. Carcharodontosaurus
I'm not an expert on mammals, but that is the coolest mammal fossil that I have ever seen in a private collection. What formation was it found in? That might narrow it down a bit.

32fordboy
Thanks, guys. It was found in the White River group, Chadron formation. It came from someplace in Nebraska, but I can't get any more specific than that, unfortunately...probably somewhere in the northwestern corner (ironically, we were in that area not long ago, hunting the White River). Anybody who can narrow this down to genus will have to be very-well versed in White River fauna, so any leads will be appreciated. I can supply any photos/measurements as necessary. Just for comparison, here is a larger tooth from a younger (less-worn) individual, not necessarily the same genus. This single tooth is from South Dakota. 32fordboy
Update: It turns out the guy who owned it last is pretty sure it's Megacerops of some sort (pretty sure that Megacerops is synonymous with Brontotherium and Brontops, but don't quote me on that). 32fordboy
I've been thinking about it for quite some time, but a project is currently on the boards for a friend (deadline looming...eeeeek!!). There's not much left to do on it, as the head is now attached, it just needs rough shaping and texturing. So the next project will either be (most likely) a Titanothere or some sort of Tyrannosaurid. www.nicksfossils.com
