Ludwigia
Well, I'm getting down to the bottom of the box again. These will probably be the last things to show for the time being. By the way, I didn't get the ID right on that bivalve on the last page. I'll correct that now first of all with another picture of it.Propeamussium laeviradiratum (Waagen 1867)Another bivalve. Perhaps Gresslya sp., but I'm not at all sure about that. 3.5cm. long.Another nice calcite mold of A. opalinoides. 5cm. Edited December 25, 2014 by Ludwigia Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Terry Dactyll
Roger...Wow... it looks quite a productive area to come back with that lot... The bivalves look really nice... I did start picking the odd mint one up here and there myself... Cheers Steve... And Welcome if your a New Member...

Not everyone pays much attention to the bivalves, but the shill has quite a few well-preserved ones and I'm starting to find some relatively rare ones in it if I take the time to inspect it properly. Ludwigia
Excellent prep work!!! Really beautiful pieces. Thanks! The snowy and cold weather just doesn't want to go away, so it'll be a while before I can find some more things to post here. Just one more thing. The bivalve above which I thought might be Gresslya turned out to be Tancredia sp. I had to whittle it down to the bone so that a helpful colleague was able to identify it for me. Ludwigia
Well, I've been at it again several times between light snow falls over the last couple of weeks and have just finished prepping a few more things. First of all some finds from the freshly plowed fields on the Bajocian around Geisingen. Caumontisphinctes sp. 5.5cm. Modiolus bipartitus. 2cm. Dorsetensia romani 7.5cm. And now the new ones from the Wutach area. Everything is from the staufensis bank, upper Aalenian. That's the layer I focus on mostly at this time. Here's a link to the preparation of the block in the first photo. http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?/topic/35948-a-puzzling-experience/ Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Ludwigia
Continuing on... C. sinon. 9cm. The little one is S.opalinoides. A. opalinoides. 10cm. A. opalinoides. 9cm. My very first Trigonia from this layer and site! T.costata. 7cm. Tiny but nice. Myophorella cf. formosa. 1.5cm. Edited December 25, 2014 by Ludwigia Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Ludwigia
Thanks, Steve. The Trigonia leaves me with a question about the paleogeography, since they were actually generally quite common at that time, so why are they so rare along that part of the former coastline? Ludwigia
Here are a couple more just prepared. A. opalinoides. 5cm. C. sinon. 8cm. Not quite complete, but you get a good view into some crystallized chambers. Edited December 25, 2014 by Ludwigia Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Fossildude19
Roger, Well, if you find one that isn't complete, at least you find the one with STYLE! That Staufenia sinon is just cool! Thanks for showing these to us. Ludwigia
Well, I had to throw quite a few away, but this one was worth keeping. Thanks, Tim. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/
Ludwigia
I managed to get out between downpours again a few weeks ago for a successful hunt in the Wutach valley and have been spending the last couple of weeks cleaning things up. Here are the results so far. This block measures 11x6cm. Below C. sinon. Above Ludwigia haugi obtusiformis. Ludwigia haugi 12cm. Staufenia ?discoidea 15cm. Missing a bit but they are rare. This is my favorite. It took ages to prepare. A composite block measuring 20x18cm. with variations on A opalinoides and a lone Ludwigia haugi in the middle. I'm off right now in that direction again with a friend to try my luck once more. Hope we don't get drenched. The slopes are slippery when wet. Dont tell me about stuff you are throwing out! I'd probably be stuffing them in my pockets even though I dont have any more room for them! Good luck today! Ludwigia
Just got back from the field trip, or should I say, slope slip...and glad to report that we managed to stay dry. I was also happy to be able to see my friend off with lots of really nice things, although I was amazed that he could stay on his feet with all that weight on his back. I kept my knapsack relatively light this time, but there are nevertheless a few nice things for the prep bench. Roger....The multiblock is fabulous.... Nice finds! Thanks Steve. I think my friend now has one or two similar to it for his preparatory delight. Hi Roger, you seem to be doing pretty well with more finds/prep! As Steve just pointed out, that multiblock is great! Ah, you just popped in while I was typing. Well Dan, y'all just have to come over again for a visit...or maybe vice versa...still thinking about that, but I think I'll have to wait a year or so first. Greetings from the Lake of Constance.
