PrehistoricFlorida
Sometimes when a fossil is found one side is exposed while there is still more buried beneath the sand, gravel, or clay. This can create very contrasting colors like those seen on this tapir mandible. The left jaw was exposed to the dark tannic water, while the right jaw was still buried in the blue clay. This specimen was found in North Florida. Edited January 23, 2013 by PrehistoricFlorida www.PrehistoricFlorida.com
