New Post, More Pics:unusual Belgrade Find

I posted this the other day and had a request for more pics.

Found: MM Quarry Belgrade (Mayesville) NC

Belgrade Formation, late Oligocene/early Miocene and the Trent (River Bend) Formation, Oligocene

There are also overlying Miocene/Pliocene and Pleistocene layers.

I have seen nothing like this from this or any other NC location. Someone suggested it looked egg like, but I do not see that. I know this may sound odd, and impossible but it looks like an eyeball in its socket to me. Help, suggestions or even some names I can e-mail would be appreciated.

Is it a body fossil, or could it be a trace?

I'm sure it's not the same thing, but it roughly resembles the Pennsylvanian trace Conostichus.

Missourian, it does in fact roughly resemble Conostichus. I am not real familiar with trace fossils, don't find many around here, but I guess it could be.
