Turtle Scute, Distal Phalanx, And A Sweet Unstemmed Biface

Nothing like a little thunderstorm to wash out the goodies. Yesterday's creek walk in Travis Co. TX yielded these specimens.

Turtle scute. Any idea what kind? Not snapping turtle, I think.

Distal phalanx. My first thoughts were deer, bison, or bos. The articulating surface has eroded away.

Unstemmed biface. First thought here was Gahagan biface, but my lithics mentor thinks not. Kinney point doesn't seem to be right, either. I'll stick with 'unstemmed Texas biface' unless I hear otherwise.

If you think I didn't string together a symphony of exuberant obscenities when I happened across the biface, then you don't know me very well, do you?

Thanks for looking, y'all.

Wow!

That artifact looks like it could still give a close shave! :o

Jealous of all who find artifacts - never have found one.

Thanks for posting these.

Nice finds.

I almost swallowed my tongue when I thought your point was 10 inches instead of cm. Still a monster though! That is sweet. Not sure if I'm seeing phalanx. Maybe just a worn bone chunk.

You could be right about the supposed phalanx, garyc. I'm not sure my photos give a good representation of the item. In the right hands it would be obvious what it is, I think.
