Scramblered Posted October 30, 2013 Share Posted October 30, 2013 (edited) I found this along with a bunch of brachiopods in Deer Lake, PA. They are doing a lot of road construction there, so we went on a weekend when they were not working. I found this at the very end of our visit lying in a pile of rubble at the base of the soon to be new road. I wish I found it chipping rock away, instead of just sitting on the ground, but never the less it was exciting. It is about 3 inches long and 2 inches wide. The ridges have small almost tentacle like 'sucker holes' on them. Almost like miniature versions of the suckers on the bottom of an octopus arm. Jeffrey P Posted October 31, 2013 Share Posted October 31, 2013 I agree. Looks like Dipleura to me. A very cool looking large burrowing trilobite. Big congratulations! I've collected a number of them in Central Upstate New York. I was just at Deer Lake last week for the first time, but didn't find any trilos, just brachs, bivalves, and something weird I should post here. I've heard that Dipleura are sometimes found at the site, but are pretty rare so consider yourself to be highly fortunate to find one just lying there.
