Ammojoe
I recently got round to prepping a few ammonites from my collection - I collected them during the summer (August) at the Yorkshire Coast (UK), but have only just got round to prepping them. I thought I'd share them with you. I'm not an experienced prepper, so I was practising on these ammonites. I am pleased with how they turned out, although I still have a little bit of work to finish some of them off. If anyone else wants to share their Yorkshire ammonites that would be great; once we get a thread going I'll post some of my other specimens. All of these ammonites are from the Lias of the Yorkshire Coast, UK, and were prepped out of hard limestone nodules. I used the Chicago Pneumatic from start to finish on all of theses ammonites, and then I gave them a light coat of beeswax. Ammojoe
Thanks Darren, and Nick. It would be good if you could post some of yours, Nick, I'm sure you have plenty of gorgeous examples to post. Thanks Roger; would you be able to add them to this thread? Lovely display pieces rocdoc6982! Nobody preps an ammonite better than Mike Marshall in my opinion, really lovely specimens, thanks for sharing. Great photography too. The spines on that Eteoderoceras are incredible! I look forward to seeing more! Kind regards, Joe
Ludwigia
Thanks Roger; would you be able to add them to this thread? Done. I agree. That E.armatum is one in a million! rocdoc6982
I'll post some more of the E.Armatum if you guys are interested? The only other one I've seen like it was a similar size and preservation in a private collection in Dorset. That specimen was from Charmouth whereas mine is Yorkshire born and bred! Here's something more common, it's a Dactylioceras commune. Ammonite is 3.5" wide (9cm). This is one of my favorite ammonites. From Simon G. Jeffrey P
I happen to have a very nice Dactylioceras I bought: One of the very few fossils in my collection I purchased. I consider it to be one of the quintessential ammonites. Your collection is quite stunning. Big congratulations. Wish I could get off there and find some of my own. Ammojoe
Thanks for sharing everyone. Yes please, rocdoc6982, I'd love some more photos of the Eteoderoceras! That's a cracking Dactylioceras too, superb preservation and prep… Thanks for sharing your fine specimens too, mikeymig. The Eleganticeras - are you saying they're male and female due to the difference in size? Here's quite a small Hildoceras bifrons from Whitby Bay. mikeymig
That's what I was told Joe. Not only the size but the shape and thickness of the shells. I bought it because it displays real well and was a top prep. Mikey Many times I've wondered how much there is to know. led zeppelin
