Mazon Creek/braidwood Fossils Or Just Nothing?

Hey y'all! I made my very first trek to the Mazon Creek area last Friday. I didn't find very much due to the ground being quite frozen, but I did find a few concretions. I have been freeze/thawing the majority of them over the past couple of days. Here are the ones that have opened up. I could really use some help with these due to the fact that I am a total novice when it comes to Mazon Creek goodies!

I would look in RCFossils' gallery for an ID. He has hunted Mazon for decades. A fellow member and i are planning to go on the 13th. Hopefully after that i can help you ID yours. I never have been, so i don't really know what to ID.

The first specimen is quite interesting. It might be a fish!

I might be able to make out more detail with additional pictures.

I do not see much with your other concretions.

After looking at your galleries I thought it could be a worm or a fish. Is it normal for only part of something to be left in the concretion?

Thanks for looking!

Here is a picture of an Acanthodian that fellow forum member Oilshale has in his album

From what I have seen, I would say yes.

Hi Glitter

#1 is possibly fish (Esconichthys) or worm (Mazoglossus or Paucijaculum). All are almost always preserved as just a color pattern, except the eyes of the fish when present.

#5 is a jelly fish Essexella.

The rest are too weathered and mineralized.

I found an acanthodian fish in my buckets yesterday. Our book "The Mazon Creek Fossil Fauna" is on amazon or available through ESCONI.org.
