Beautiful Asteroceras I Found Yesterday

Found this yesterday. Only went out to test my new estwing. I saw no sign of an ammonite on the outside of the Rock. Just had that shape about it. The right colour, the layers. One firm hit and it just popped. I made that noise. You know the one when a fossil catches you off guard. Decided it was worthy of a prep. Paddy Howe in Lyme Regis did it for me. Very good job and even better price. Anyway, here's a few pics.

I LOVED collecting at Lyme Regis. It was unreal, the sheer amount of fossils. It was amazing to see the dinner table sized ammonites in the rocks and all of the beautiful pyritised stuff + these beautiful calcite / aragonite ammonites replacements.

I got lucky with the size and quality of the beast, but yes, I would like some credit in knowing what to look for haha. That definitely improves your chances massively. Funnily enough, I didn't see anything to do with the ammonite on the outside of the Rock. There were other ammonite cross sections which made me pick it up.

Thanks guys :) can't wait to go back and split some more rocks. Maybe tomorrow.

Nice fossil and prep job but it looks like the 2 halves could have been glued back together and prepped so that the shell remained on the ammo!
