Roadrunner Posted June 1, 2014 Share Posted June 1, 2014 (edited) It looks like weathered jasper to me - which is a specific type of chert. Next time I'm out, I'll try picking up some that we find in New Mexico. Jasper can be multi-colored, including that dark side. And I found one image of "Outback Jasper" that had similar looking graininess. When I get back home today, if you haven't found it or solved this I'll post what I found (pictures have to be uploaded to photobucket then put in here). I'm on my way out the door right now. Scylla Posted June 1, 2014 Share Posted June 1, 2014 Looks like a limonite pseudomorph after pyrite to me. This is the result of a decomposing pyrite nodule.
