Michigan Fish Fossil?

Can anyone help identify this fossil? Looks like a fish near the center of the rock, to me. The entire rock is 2" wide. I found it on a Lake Michigan beach near Glen Arbor. Thx!post-15620-0-52333200-1403204611_thumb.jpg

Definitely an interesting find! Underneath the main "fish" in the middle, there appears to be another fish at the bottom. How many "fish" are there? It looks like a great specimen, I wish I knew more about fish fossils.

No fish in there, I'm afraid. But they are fossils. Mostly marine invertebrates by my eye. The second piece appears to be bryozoans. Almost certainly 100s of million of years old. Nice finds!

I agree, no fish, but cross sections through brachiopods.

Second one is cross sections through bryozoans or corals.

Thanks for your replies! I have access to some polishing equipment and was considering removing some of the material on top of the Non-Fish. I thought it might improve the image. Bad idea?

Well, you are welcome to do as you like, but I think it looks kinda cool as is.

Besides the fishattachicon.giffossil4.jpg shape, this really looked like the tail of a fish.

It sure does! It is a brachiopod impression, though. Ma Nature can be a real trickster.
