Gmr Hunt 6/22/2014

My seven year old twisted my arm into a trip to GMR to hunt for fossils. We had a great day hunting together while dodging the showers that cooled us off. We had a decent day with the junior hunter finding lots of the typical worn, broken teeth that made her happy. She was especially enthralled with the amount of bone material we kept digging up. I didn't realize how enthralled until I went to pick up our knapsack and realized it weighed a lot more than it did when we started the day. Our best finds were three shamer GWs, many small squalis, two items that I think are scutes, a strange bone, and what looks to be a modern tooth(?). I would appreciate any corrections or help with ids or correcting my misidentifications.

The last item is a horse hoof-core...but that might not be a fossil, looking at the photos. I love the GWs. Those are hard to find down here in FL.

#2 looks like yangaensis but the way things are mixed up there I wouldn't say for sure

Has anyone else found a horse hoof core in GMR? I did the burn test and am pretty sure its fossilized. I have seen horse teeth come from the creek.

That is an interesting horse fossil to find. Ive found fossilized horse teeth in that creek, but that's a first Ive seen.

DO, or do not. There is no try.

Very nice, a hoof core is still on my list: )

Every once in a great while it's not just a big rock down there!

Great finds!! GMR is one of my favorites to collect at. It is a melting pot of fossils and I always leave with something unique. Thanks for sharing.
