Jarmcq
I would like help with finding what this is. There seems to be various indentations and impressions of what seems to be coral as well as shell like imprints all over. It was found in about 2 meter deep ocean water, and what caught me was the semi-porous appearance of the rock itself, the weight, and all of these beige toned inclusions all over. I am unsure of what it is, and it never hurts to ask. Many thanks to all who help
tmaier
I think I see a fossil scallop sticking out, and modern encrustations of oyster and tube worm. Maybe the matrix is limestone? You could test it by crushing some and seeing if it fizzles in vinegar. Rocks like that are great homes for organisms and they are often so encrusted that they get the name "live rock". http://www.google.com/images?q=live+rock&hl=en&gbv=1&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ei=JDTxU6O5IdP-yQTLnYLoBg&ved=0CEQQsAQ
