ynot
Hey all, I am planning a trip to North Carolina in the near future, and would appreciate any help in finding some place to look for shark teeth. (preferably free but a pay to dig will work too.) Thanks n advance, Tony Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." scatsob
Where are you traveling to exactly? Probably the best place to go would be the Aurora fossil museum and sift through the spoil pile there for a few hours. I found a few nice teeth in some soil from the mine they brought down here to lejeune recently.

sixgill pete
Tony, Asheville is a beautiful place, but no where near any of the fossil bearing locations in NC. From Asheville to Aurora it is about 6 hours. The mountains of NC, while beautiful and home to some great trout fishing are void of fossils. The closest fossiling to there would probably be west in Tenn. But, I cannot help you with any locations. ynot
Hey Sixgil pete, Thanks for the reply. I am aware of the distance and time involved. Have done some crystal hunting in the Spruce Pine district and around Francklen in the past few years. And thought it would be nice to do something else this year. ynot
Hey Plax, Thanks for the reply--what areas in Virginia would you suggest? Tony Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Plax
google "fossil Collecting in /Virginia" or the state geo map. Have picked up paleozoic fossils near the rt 77 tunnel but otherwise don't have specific sites for you. all the nice paleozoic fossils take a jog around NC. Try an inquiry on the Virgina section of the forum. Rivers are all very high here in NC now or could recommend a 3 or 4 hour ride for you
