Bev
Ordovician SE Minnesota Galena Formation, Prosser member I've never seen anything quite like this... To me (not that I know anything) it looks trilobitish because of the shell and the spots on the shell - but that round bubble has me totally stumped. However, it may not have been all round originally as some seems to have broken off. It just does not look like anything that I am familiar with! For scale Wetted it here. Has anyone seen something like this before? What is it??? Thanks for looking! The more I learn, I realize the less I know. Malcolmt
Its a piece of a trilobite cephalon with eye, could be isotelus
piranha
...Has anyone seen something like this before? Yes, it has been "seen" before... it's the eye of and partial free cheek of an asaphid trilobite. Based on the scale you provided, the large size indicates it must be an Isotelus. The attached photo highlights where the palpebral lobe or 'eyelid' would have connected to the ocular suture.
FossilDAWG
You should keep an eye out for the rest of the trilobite. Don

JohnBrian
You should keep an eye out for the rest of the trilobite. Don It will be the one wearing safety glasses to protect it's remaining eye. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- John
