TucsonDesertCollector
Hi, I found this in a bag of seashells at an estate sale. I actually bought the bag because of this specimen. I thought it looked very interesting with that perfectly round and smooth hole that runs through it. Is this a rock, a bone, or perhaps coral? Thank You!! RichW9090
The material looks like shell to me. What it is I do not know. The plural of "anecdote" is not "evidence".
kauffy
I agree it looks like a large chunk of shell. It is probable the hole in the shell material is either a result of a burrowing clam, boring sponge or polychaete worm which decided to take up residence on the surface. That's what I see but let's see what others think "Turn the fear of the unknown into the excitment of possibility!"We dont stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing. Auspex
Cool piece! To me, it looks like a big, heavy piece of water-worn and sponge-drilled shell. caldigger
Yep, we are all on the same train. Thick shell that has been bored and very water worn.
