DE&i
Like straight from a scene out of Excalibur... where upon Sir Bedevere threw the sword Excalibur into the lake. A womans arm, clad in white silk that was interwoven with gold and silver thread, rose up out of the lake and caught the sword by the hilt and then shook it three times before slipping silently beneath the surface of the water. That was my immediate first impression so Id thought I would share with you. The water is rising here all the time and will be perhaps completely submerged over the next few days. Who knows what lies beneath? Regards, Darren. fossilized6s
That's funny. I once found a deer skeleton sticking out of a huge erosion pile/rock slide. The striped pelvis was sticking straight up at the top. Grab the snorkel gear, and tell your wife you're taking the kids to a swimming hole. digit
Thanks for the chuckle this morning. Back in 2010 I was thinking of going to Iceland to see the wild scenery but of course that was the year that Eyjafjallajökull had an upset stomach and was rumbling. I read an article in National Geographic (Edge of the World) that featured the Hebrides Islands of Scotland and the images so captivated me that I instantly changed my plans and went to Scotland instead. Continued eruptions which shut down the airspace over Eastern Europe and the UK several times nearly scuttled my plans anyway but I made it and enjoyed myself immensely. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys natural rugged beauty--the Scots couldn't have been more warm an welcoming to boot. While planning out the trip I realized that Castle Aaaarrrrrgggghhh.... from the surreal end of the movie (the one in the water) was in fact Castle Stalker. After a little research I learned that, with the exception of the 'Black Knight' scene which was filmed in Epping Forest, the rest of the epic production was filmed in Scotland. I was able to turn up a few of the filming locations which we visited at the end of our trip to the Outer Hebrides. It seems that Monty Python had scoped out several castles in which to film various scenes but when the National Trust who managed many of the castles learned that it was a comedy and not a "serious" film they withdrew permission just a few weeks before filming was to start. It turned out that Doune Castle in Stirling still had many of the internal rooms (whereas most castles had been repeatedly destroyed over the ages and mostly consisted of the external shell) so this was the location for many of the memorable moments in the film. When we visited Doune we were on the lookout for taunting Frenchmen and flying livestock but sadly saw neither. The taunting wall at Doune Castle as it appeared in the movie (1975) and as of 2010. Who could forget the Trojan Rabbit? Or Camelot? -Ken
