rachums107
I got 3lbs 12 oz of Florida matrix from jcbshark in a trade. I finished searching them awhile ago but was only now able to get some pictures. I took pics of the fish/? teeth and ray plates, but I know virtually nothing about these. Any identification is much appreciated. Sorry about the pictures, they are best I could do with an old magnifying glass and a cheap camera. lissa318
http://www.geocities.ws/green23fin/SkatesnRays/Skates.html This site has pictures of the stingray crusher plates and teeth. You have both in some of your pictures.
lissa318
Better pics and numbering each one helps tremendously in getting ID's... When theres so many in a picture it is very difficult for a member to let you know which one they are even indentifying for you. Look up drum fish teeth as you have quite a few of them mixed in there.
old bones
Lissa is right about too many specimens per photo. It would really help us to ID your finds if they were numbered as well. You have a lot of nice finds. Lets see better photos please. I did see that it appears that you may have another partial cookie cutter tooth in this photo. rachums107
Yeah I was wondering about those-I thought they looked like CC teeth but forgot to mention them. Also, I'm not really looking for individual identification, but just generally what the heck these things are, which lissa318 answered with that website. I dont really have time to take individual pics and my camera isn't the greatest. But you guys are right, it is a pain to identify these individually in the arrangement they are. I looked up drum teeth and that makes so much more sense now. Is it safe to assume that these are all fossilized? I mean we still have fish with teeth like this right? jcbshark
The drum fish teeth are fossil for sure, this creek is freshwater and drum are salt . The only fish teeth that would be suspect as possibly not fossil would be gar but I don't think I've ever found a modern one either and there aren't many live fish at all except a few small sunfish in the section of creek I hunt Every once in a great while it's not just a big rock down there! old bones
The only one that I suspected to be a CC, is the one the arrow points to. The one next to it looks like a barracuda tooth.
rachums107
The tooth in the first picture of the second group is also a Cookie cutter I believe; thats why I took an individual picture of it
